MaLiLib Mod — Power Your Minecraft Mods
MaLiLib Mod is a client-side library mod for Minecraft Java Edition. It provides shared systems such as configuration menus, keybind handling, GUI components, serialization, rendering utilities, and other common code used by several mods created by masa.
It is commonly required by mods including Litematica, MiniHUD, Tweakeroo, Item Scroller, and TellMe. MaLiLib itself does not add major gameplay content; its main purpose is to provide the framework those mods depend on.
What is Malilib Mod?
Malilib mod (short for masa's Library) is a utility library for Minecraft created by masa. It doesn't add blocks, mobs or items to your game. Instead, it gives other mods a ready-made toolkit: configuration screens, keybind handling, on-screen rendering helpers and common utility code.
If you've ever installed Litematica, MiniHUD or Tweakeroo, you've already met MaLiLib: those mods simply won't launch without it. Because all of them share the same library, they get a consistent look, a shared hotkey system and fewer conflicts.
For newer Minecraft releases, including the year-based 26.x line, updated builds are maintained in the community fork by sakura-ryoko on GitHub, which is where our download button points.

Key Features of Malilib Mod
Malilib mod quietly does the heavy lifting in the background. Here's what it brings to every mod built on top of it.
Unified config GUI
A clean, searchable in-game settings screen with toggles, sliders, color pickers and lists, shared by every masa-style mod.
Advanced hotkey system
Multi-key combos, per-context activation and conflict-aware bindings, so you can map dozens of actions without stepping on vanilla controls.
Overlay & HUD rendering
Helpers for drawing info lines, boxes and world overlays, used by MiniHUD's coordinates, light levels and structure outlines.
JSON-based settings
Every option is saved to readable config files, making it easy to back up, share or copy your setup between instances.
Lightweight footprint
It's a small library with no gameplay changes, so it adds almost nothing to load time or memory use.
Open source
The full code is public on GitHub. Anyone can read it, report issues or build it themselves.
A shared engine under the hood
Think of malilib mod as the engine and Litematica, MiniHUD and Tweakeroo as the cars. Here's what happens when you launch the game.
Loader starts
Fabric scans your mods folder and finds MaLiLib along with the mods that depend on it.
Library loads first
Malilib registers its config, input and rendering systems before the dependent mods initialise.
Mods plug in
Each dependent mod registers its own settings and hotkeys through malilib's shared API.
You play
Press your config hotkey (often M + C) to open a unified settings menu for each mod.
Installation of Malilib Mod
No technical skills needed. Just match your versions and drop the file in the right folder.
Compatibility of Malilib Mod
- Minecraft Java Edition
- Fabric Loader for your game version
- Fabric API (required by most dependent mods)
- The matching malilib build, e.g. Malilib mod 1.21.11 for MC 1.21.11

Use Cases of Malilib Mod
If you use any of these popular mods, malilib is required. Here's what it enables.
Builders & schematic users
LITEMATICALoad schematic holograms, check placement errors and copy builds between worlds. Litematica relies entirely on malilib for its menus and rendering.
Technical players
MINIHUDShow coordinates, TPS, light levels, slime chunks and spawn-proofing overlays. MiniHUD's info lines are drawn with malilib's rendering helpers.
Speed & convenience fans
TWEAKEROOFlexible block placement, tool switching, freecam and dozens of small tweaks, each bound to hotkeys managed by malilib.
Inventory organisers
ITEM SCROLLERMove stacks with scroll and drag gestures, and craft in bulk. Item Scroller's configuration lives in the shared malilib menu.
Mod developers
APIBuild your own client mod on top of malilib to get config screens and keybinds without writing them from scratch.
Malilib vs other config libraries
There are other Minecraft config libraries, but none of them can replace malilib for masa's mods. Here's how they differ.

Is malilib mod safe?
Yes, when downloaded from a trusted source. Malilib is open source, so its code is publicly reviewable, and it's used by a huge number of players alongside some of the most popular client mods.
The main risk with any mod is fake re-uploads on random sites. Follow the checklist and you'll stay safe.
Download from official sources
Use GitHub, CurseForge or Modrinth. Avoid sites that wrap the file in installers or .exe files.
Check the file type
A real malilib download is a .jar (or a source .zip from GitHub), never an .exe.
Client-side only
It doesn't need to be on servers you join, and it doesn't modify server data.
Know the server rules
Some dependent mods (like certain Tweakeroo features) may be disallowed on competitive servers. Check rules before joining.
Back up your worlds
Good practice before adding any mod or updating Minecraft.

Frequently asked questions
21 answers to help you get started, install MaLiLib and solve common issues.
What is MaLiLib Mod?
MaLiLib is a client-side library for Minecraft Java Edition. It supplies shared configuration menus, hotkeys, GUI components and rendering utilities for other mods.
Does MaLiLib add gameplay features on its own?
Its main purpose is to support dependent mods. Installing it alone does not add schematic building tools or inventory automation.
Which mods use MaLiLib?
Examples include Litematica, MiniHUD, Tweakeroo, Item Scroller and TellMe. Check the dependency list for the exact mod release you use.
Is MaLiLib free to use?
MaLiLib is an open-source project. Download it through the project repository or its linked distribution pages.
Does MaLiLib work with Minecraft Bedrock Edition?
No. MaLiLib is a Java Edition mod and cannot be installed as a Bedrock add-on.
Do I need MaLiLib on a multiplayer server?
For client-side mods that require it, install MaLiLib in your own game instance. Follow each dependent mod's documentation and the server's rules.
Where can I find MaLiLib settings?
Configuration screens are normally accessed through the dependent mod. Consult that mod's documentation for its menu shortcut and available options.
How do I install MaLiLib?
Install the required loader, download a compatible compiled MaLiLib jar, and place it alongside the dependent mod in the active instance's mods folder. Then launch that profile.
How do I choose the correct version?
Match the Minecraft version, loader and MaLiLib version requirement listed by your dependent mod. A higher library version number does not guarantee compatibility.
Where is my mods folder?
Open the game directory for the profile you use in your launcher, then locate its mods folder. Custom launchers may use a separate directory for each instance.
Should I download a JAR or a ZIP?
For normal gameplay, use a compiled jar. The homepage download button points to a GitHub source ZIP, which contains code and is not ready to install as a mod.
Can I use a Fabric file with another loader?
Use a build explicitly compatible with your loader and dependent mods. Do not assume a Fabric jar will work with Forge or NeoForge.
Does every MaLiLib setup need Fabric API?
Follow the dependency list for your specific MaLiLib build and companion mods. Install Fabric API when that combination requires it.
How should I update MaLiLib?
Back up your instance, check the requirements of all dependent mods, and replace the old jar with a compatible release. Avoid leaving duplicate versions in the mods folder.
Why does the launcher report a missing MaLiLib dependency?
Confirm that a compiled MaLiLib jar is in the active instance's mods folder. Read the full error message to check whether it requires a particular version range.
Why does Minecraft crash after installation?
Read the loader message or crash report first. Check for mismatched game versions, unsupported loaders, missing dependencies and duplicate jars before changing unrelated files.
Why does my configuration shortcut do nothing?
Check the shortcut in the dependent mod's documentation, confirm its assigned keys and look for conflicting bindings. Some shortcuts depend on whether a menu or game world is open.
What should I do about duplicate mod files?
Close Minecraft and keep one intended version of each mod in the active mods folder. Move older files to a backup directory outside that folder.
Why are my overlays not visible?
Check the dependent mod's main toggle and individual overlay settings. Some displays depend on information available to the client or the world you have loaded.
Can I copy my settings to another instance?
Back up the relevant configuration files first. Copy them into a compatible setup and check the options in-game, since settings can differ between versions.
Where should I report a bug?
Use the support or issue tracker for the project responsible for the problem. Include your Minecraft version, loader, mod versions and error log, removing personal information before sharing.
